|One Beautiful Breezy Summer Night Filled With Love
Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
A: Ryan and I met through mutual friends in the summer of 2009. We were each in relationships but became fast friends. Our group was inseparable that summer! Our lives took us in different directions and he actually ended up moving to Florida followed by Auburn, Alabama but we reconnected again 2 years later thanks to Facebook!I was living alone in Buckhead and he had just gotten a job right down the street from my house. A 5 minute commute was much more appealing than a 55 minute and he moved in a few months later. We stayed in the city for a couple years but then it was time for his daughter to start kindergarten so we traded in the bustling noisy city for a quiet life in the country.
Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
A: Ryan’s great at getting me out of my comfort zone. He’s an adrenaline junkie who loves water sports, pitbulls and anything with an engine. I’m much more laid back and enjoyed reading and riding horses. He’s taught me how to water ski and ride dirt bikes. I taught him it’s ok to just relax. Life doesn’t always have to happen at 65mph! Together we developed a love for Jeeps and each have one we’re constantly working on or out hitting the trails. We’re part of a dirt bike team called “Team Sketchy Racing” and spend a lot of time at the track with his daughter Kylie. She is definitely the glue that keeps our relationship together. She just started 4th grade and wants to be a professional dirt bike rider when she grows up! Our main priority now is making her dreams come true!
Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
A: Growing up I was never the girl who dreamed of my wedding and had the whole thing planned out and just needed to find the groom. In fact, I never wanted to get married or have children. About 4 months into our relationship Ryan introduced me to Kylie and it was all over from there. He was such an amazing father and she was head over heels for her Daddy! I knew then that I wanted to do the family thing and he was the man I wanted to do it with. I never felt the need to rush down the aisle and didn’t pressure him to propose. We dated for about 3 years and he took me completely by surprise when he proposed.
Q: Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
A: Ryan planned a trip to the mountains of North Georgia for my 26th birthday. There used to be a great Jeep trail that leads to an amazing view of Hiawassee and the lakes and valley. (They have since paved the trail to make is accessible to everyone) He took me to the very top and said he wanted to take some pictures. He wanted a funny picture where it looks like he’s pushing me off the mountain. (He’s such a romantic!) He gets the GoPro all set up and I turn around to pose. The next thing I know he’s telling me to turn back around and he’s down on one knee asking me to marry him!! I didn’t hesitate and immediately said “YES!!!” He actually caught the whole thing on film and I’ve watched it probably a thousand times! Looking back I can’t believe I didn’t notice how weird he was acting, but he definitely surprised me!
Q: We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!
A: Ryan asked my dad for permission to marry me about a week before the trip to the mountains. He said he wanted to propose for a while but had no clue where to even start on the ring purchase. My dad said he would help get info on what kind of a ring I would like.I work for my dad and on my birthday we took the day off to do some shopping. While at the mall my dad said maybe we should go check out some engagement rings just in case Ryan wanted to propose I would have an idea of what I liked. (Yes apparently I am that blind to all the signs flashing right in my face because I still had no clue Ryan was up to something.) We went in the store and tried on a bunch of different rings. I ended up falling in love with one in particular because it was unlike any I’d ever seen. It has a braided diamond band with 6 individual diamonds forming the center stone on top of a halo setting. The center resembles a flower more than a perfect circle. On Friday before the trip my dad had an “emergency” work call in Atlanta he had to get to right away. The truth was he was meeting Ryan at the jeweler to show him the rings I liked. To be sure he was getting the perfect ring he FaceTimed his sister, who happened to be sitting in class at FSU. She stops the class and gets all the girls together and they go through the ring choices with Ryan. They all decided on the ring I had chosen. It now proudly sits on my left hand!
Q: Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
A: Wedding planning was the most exciting 17 months! We got married on April 22, 2017 in a beautiful beach ceremony in Sandestin, Florida. The reception was held on the deck overlooking the emerald water and most perfect Florida sunset. Our colors were Coral and Royal Blue and the guests were given sunglasses and koozies to help battle the heat. We had a seafood buffet complete with oysters and conch fritters, and finished the meal with the most amazing wedding cake. Decorated with tiny crystals and shells it was a great way to end the evening! It was over in a flash but every single second was absolutely magical! A dream come true for a girl who never dreamed about getting married!
